If Fidesz forms the next government it will develop a ten-year housing programme and establish an organisation close enough to decision makers to lobby for the construction industry, regarding both construction and real estate operation, housing policy expert Fidesz MP László Mádi told Hungarian news agency MTI.
The new government will inherit two acute problems: housing loans in foreign currencies, which is linked to the problem of evictions, and the chain of overdue payments in the sector.
In the medium term it is hard to imagine that the 40,000 new homes needed can be built in a year, and in 2010 less than 20,000 will be built. A recovery could be based on a housing policy that is embedded in the economy and social policy, Mádi explained, adding that subsidies should be focused on renovation and energy saving.
A new first home purchase subsidy policy can only actually be developed from 2011, he added.
