Gov’t designates planned Chinese €455m airport investment “priority project”

The government has made a planned EUR 455m investment by a Chinese-owned company at the Vat-Porpac Airport (NW Hungary) a “priority project”, accelerating the process of applying for permits, the latest issue of official gazette Magyar Kozlony reveals.

Chinese-owned Sia-Port wants to build an “international, intercontinental, airport with a focus on air cargo” at the site, according to the home page of the National Development and Economy Ministry. The airport is expected to employ a staff of 2,000.

What kind of craziness is this ?

Can someone please tell me where this new airport is supposed to be situated ?

  2. JD says:

I suppose in the bustling metropolis of Porpac Wolfi

Chinese designating where the next airport in Hungary should be situated? Not for passengers but, for air cargo. More cheap and woeful Chinese imports?
If any airport should be given priority it is Flybalaton at Sarmellék.
If this airport is allowed to “die” – so will lake Balaton.

  4. wolfi says:

Thanks, JD – it would have been enough to mention “between Szombathely and Sárvár”.

That’s not to far from Sármellék and also near Pápa where they also want to build/already have an airport I think – stranger and stranger it gets …

Wings of course is correct: Fly Balaton in Sármellek is really necessary for the future of the Balaton lake, but WTF!

  5. Vándorló says:

I’d look for who already owned land in and around the area to find out why this receives priority support. That land and property are now worth a lot more. Great boost for Szombathely, though!

Well done Vandarlo-you are opening your eyes at last-keep asking the right questions !

Their are so many projects that have failed over the last two years that it is difficult to know where to begin.
I have heard of at least five airports that were to be built at different venues – not one of them has materialised.
Those who are, and have been committed, to Hungary
because of family, jobs etc., should now start to be concerned. I know I am…

  8. JD says:

@Review, “committed”? As in, to Europe’s largest open air lunatic assylum. :)

JD. I have just heard a loud bang followed by a rumble which sounded like my house was about to fall down.
Guess what? This was my neighbor’s way of informing me that he had come to water a bush which he has stored in one of my outbuildings…without recourse to ringing the bell which I have just had installed…
