Hungarians spent 14-18pc less time and money on tourism and travel in January-September, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) said in a summary on Monday.
KSH said the decline in real wages and the overall fall in retail consumption were reflected in the time and money spent on tourism in January-September.
Around 31pc of Hungarians took at least one domestic trip of several days during the period, down from 36pc in the same period a year earlier: a difference of 500,000.
Travellers spent HUF 191bn in January-September, 18pc less than in the same period a year earlier. Tourists spent HUF 62bn on accommodations, HUF 52bn on catering services and HUF 39bn on transport, including fuel purchases.
The average number of trips taken by active travellers fell 4pc and average daily spending such travellers dropped 2pc.
About 23pc of Hungarians took weekend trips in January-September, down from 27.5pc in the same period a year earlier. The percentage travelling for more than three nights fell to 16pc from 20pc.
