Hungarian low-fare airline Wizz Air carried 7.8m passengers in 2009, 33pc more than in the previous year, the company told MTI on Thursday.
This year, Wizz Air plans to carry more than 10m passengers.
Wizz Air opened its eleventh base, in Prague, in 2009. It bought seven new Airbus A320 aircraft, to give it a fleet of 27, and it launched 40 new flights. The airline flies to 147 destinations in its winter timetable and it will add two new destinations, Turku and Bologna, in February and March, respectively.
Wizz Air leads Hungary’s low-fare airline market, controlling 45.8pc. Last year it carried almost 1m Hungarians, 20pc more than in 2008.
