District bars conversion of former psychiatric institute into residential park

According to a decision by the local government of Budapest’s District II, the new owners of a 40-hectare property formerly occupied by the now-shuttered National Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology (OPNI) are prohibited from converting it into a residential housing estate, writes napi.hu.

Regulations issued by the local government specify that the property can only be used for medical purposes. In addition, only 10% of the property can be built on, while the historic main building and surrounding forested areas have to be protected.
