After collapse, Hungary’s vehicle sales seen rising more than 7% in 2010

Hungary’s motor vehicle market is expected to stabilise from the second half of 2010, and the Hungarian Association of Vehicle Importers (MGE) sees full-year sales rising 7.4pc to 85,200, chairman Peter Erdelyi said at a press conference on Monday.

The association expects passenger car sales to rise 7.9pc to 65,000 in 2010. It projects light commercial vehicle sales to grow 3.6pc to 11,000 and motorcycle sales to climb 10.8pc to 4,000. Sales of large commercial vehicles are seen growing 5.3pc to 2,200.

Last year, sales of passenger cars in Hungary plunged 61pc. Sales of light commercial vehicles dropped 51pc, sales of big commercial vehicles fell 62pc and sales of motorcycles were down 54pc.

In good economic times, 120,000-140,000 vehicles are sold each year in Hungary, a number that could be seen again in 2-3 years, Mr Erdelyi said.
