Gov’t to spend Ft 2 billion to create and preserve jobs in 2010

The government will spend HUF 2bn (EUR 7.49m) in Labour Market Fund resources on job creation and job preservation in 2010, Ministry of Social and Labour Affairs State Secretary Gabor Simon said.

The government has earmarked HUF 1.5bn in support for investments creating an estimated 1,400 jobs, a further HUF 200m for high added-value investments projected to create 250 new jobs and HUF 444m for a programme creating 600 new telecommuting jobs.

The government has allocated HUF 500m in job-preservation funds aimed at safeguarding 3,500-4,000 jobs, Mr Simon said.

In 2009 the government utilized HUF 2.5bn in Labour Market Fund resources for job preservation and creation, including HUF 555m in support for 251 companies to create 2,296 new jobs, Mr Simon noted.

Perhaps they could improve business conditions (tax, bureaucracy), that might create and preserve far more jobs than a slush fund ever could.

@JD. You don’t understand. The government is still (meg) convinced it knows better than the market and therefore needs us to contribute as much as possible so that they can get on with the job (of distorting the market).

At least they’re now being honest about safe-guarding jobs, which due to the high taxes cannot compete otherwise.
