The Robert Bosch industrial group plans to close down its car parts plant in Wales and move production capacity to Hungary next year, MTI reported from London on Friday.
The German-based company – the world’s biggest automotive industry supplier – currently employs 900 workers at its plant near Cardiff.
Following three months of consultations on the plant’s future, the head of the unit announced late on Thursday that he would propose closing down the plant and moving production to Hungary to the board of directors.
Bosch said sales of alternators made at the Wales-based plant fell a steep 45pc last year from one year earlier due to the recession.
The regional head of the union representing the bulk of the employees told the BBC that the Bosch plant will be closed down in summer 2011.
