The growth of Hungary’s mobile phone market was interrupted last year as the total number of mobile phone subscriptions fell almost 432,000 from twelve months earlier to 11,792,000, however, the number of post-paid subscriptions rose by 363,000, the National Telecommunications Authority (NHH) told MTI on Monday.

The number of mobile phone subscriptions per hundred people fell to 117.7 at the end of December from 116.65 at the end of November and 121.83 at the end of 2008.

In terms of the total number of subscriptions, Vodafone’s market share rose to 22.07pc in December from 21.87pc in November, while Pannon’s share rose to 34.52pc from 34.18pc, and T-Mobile’s share fell to 43.41pc from 43.95. The number of active subscribers rose steadily in the last quarter, increasing 219,000 in December, but still fell 66,000 to 10,931,000 for the full year.

In terms of active subscribers, Vodafone’s share rose to 22.54pc from 22.27pc in November, while T-Mobile’s share fell to 44.43pc from 44.64pc, and Pannon’s dropped to 33.03pc from 33.08pc. Hungarian telecommunication companies are charging
heavy money for calls, per minute, where as in other
countries they have per second billing system and
also calling tariff charge is on 10th of Hungary.
total exploitation of the customers money.

Anyway it’s crazy: My wife just called her sister, that was 1.6 cents a minute, Germany to Hungary (not mobile of course, that would be much too expensive).

The same price if you call the US from Germany, ridiculously cheap compared to mobile tariffs …
