Hungary’s Ministry of Education and Culture has approved royalties on online music and film, the Artisjus Hungarian Bureau for the Protection of Authors Rights announced in an official gazette.
The ministry approved a minimum royalty of HUF 18 per film offered by internet video stores for a single viewing and HUF 60 for films that can be downloaded.
Webpage operators that use background music must also pay royalties, Artisjus said. A webpage that uses no more than ten parts of songs no longer than one minute apiece must pay royalties of HUF 2,000 per month. If the number of songs used exceeds ten, the royalty fee rises to HUF 52,000. In addition to the fixed fees, webpage operators must pay 10pc of their revenue as a royalty for the songs used on their site if they obtain advertising revenues.
