Court rules accepting winner’s bid in radio frequency tender was against law

The Budapest Municipal Court said in a first-instance ruling on Tuesday that accepting the bid by the winner of a tender in the autumn called by radio and television authority ORTT for a countrywide commercial radio frequency was against the law, but ruled the ORTT was under no obligation to break the contract signed after the tender.

The case was brought against the ORTT by Radio Slager, the incumbent in the tender which was won by the newcomer FM1 consortium, which operates Neo FM.

In a tender for Hungary’s other countrywide commercial radio frequency, called at the same time, the incumbent Danubius Radio also lost to newcomer Advenio, which operates Class FM.

The court made a similar ruling at the beginning of January in a case brought by Danubius Radio against the ORTT .

Some industry insiders speculated the ORTT’s decision was politically motivated.

    Sweet FA Wolfi.

But hey, gives ORTT and Radio Slager something to discuss, bitch and moan about ad-infinitum.

  3. wolfi says:

Thanks JD, but who are the owners of Slagerradio for example ?

I just read “an American company”, but who are the owners of this company …

BTW: Slagerradio was horrible, some establishments (restaurants, hairdressers and so on) had it running all the time …

Don’t know about the new station though.
