Budapest’s District V will only issue a construction permit for an underground garage and a visitor center at the Parliament building in exchange for over Ft 175 million (roughly €643,000), daily Népszabadság learned.
According to the paper, Parking Kft is willing to pay the money – which the district said it would use to plant trees – once the permit becomes legally binding.
However, Imre Lakos (SZDSZ), chairman of the city operations committee, thinks the district has political motives, and it is “blackmailing the city,” so that “the realization of a successful project is not connected to its current leadership.”
