Záhony logistics hub high on agenda at Hungarian-Chinese talks

A project worth billions of forints that aims to turn the area around Zahony (NE Hungary) into a logistics hub for trade between the East and the West was among the topics discussed at a meeting of the Hungarian-Chinese Mixed Economic Committee on Monday, a senior National Development and Economy Ministry official told MTI.

“We gave our partners a list of projects and the Chinese trade ministry posted it on its homepage already on Monday,” Zoltan Mester said.

The two sides confirmed that Hungary is China’s second most important trade partner in Central and Eastern Europe and China is Hungary’s most important trade partner outside of Europe.

The Chinese government supports the cooperation of Hungarian oil and gas company Mol and Chinese peer Sinopec, Mester said.

According to Chinese data, Hungary’s exports to the country have reached an annual 1.2 billion dollars, while its imports from China are at 6.8 billion dollars.
