Hungary’s National Development Agency has called a tender to build an almost HUF 1bn convention centre in the capital with capacity for several thousand people, business daily Vilaggazdasag reported on Tuesday.
The deadline for bidding in the tender is March 1.
“If 8-10 conferences with 3,000-4,000 participants [apiece] were held in Budapest each year, the tax revenue for the state from hotels, catering companies, event organisers, taxi companies and turnover from other companies involved could reach tens of billions of forints,” Andras Szanto, managing director of Syma Sport and Event Centre, told the paper.
Currently, Budapest lacks a convention centre with such capacity.
Syma said in August it had obtained the necessary permits to build a big convention centre in the city.
