A tax on residential properties could be introduced but not in the short term and only after “due preparations” and wide-scale public discussion, Laszlo Madi, an expert of the main opposition Fidesz party, told a conference of real estate brokers and appraisers in Budapest on Thursday.
Balazs Lenhardt of the radical nationalist Jobbik party said that the tax could be levied towards the end of the next government cycle on properties worth more than 50 million forints (EUR 183,000). He added that the tax was necessary to generate a revenue from illegal earnings invested in properties.
On Tuesday, the Constitutional Court scrapped Hungary’s new residential property tax, introduced on January 1, saying that it was unconstitutional.
“… the tax was necessary to generate a revenue from illegal earnings invested in properties.”
This,to all intents and purposes is, in effect, an example of money laundering.
But, you must first find out where that “illegal money” is coming from in the first place. I could give you some clues. But you think about it and try to come up with some answers for yourselves.
I repeat: politicians are clueless here in Hungary:the new, and/or old, varieties.
Why I am not surprised by the stupendous remark by that moron from Jobbik: “….the tax could be levied towards the end of the next government cycle on properties worth more than 50 million forints (EUR 183,000). He added that the tax was necessary to generate a revenue from illegal earnings invested in properties….”Thus, he implies that all owners of properties valued in excess of HUF 50m are criminals. Shows you the level of intellect, or rather the absence thereof, at political level….
Suits me fine.
I have four properties valued at between €100000 and €150000 and pay no tax on the rentals.
Wouldn’t it be annoying to start paying tax after all of these years!
This is just one problem with totalitarian state. The high tax rates make everyone a criminal. You could investigate nearly every magyar and determine that he is violating several laws. Heck even my magyar ujved only accepts cash.
