APEH says 1,655 businesses in arrears for more than Ft 100 million

A total of 1,655 businesses in Hungary had tax arrears of more than HUF 100m (EUR 368,919) continually over a period of 180 days at the end of 2009, while 2,955 private and privately employed individuals had arrears of more than HUF 10m for that period of time at the end of the year, APEH reported in its quarterly list of tax arrears on Thursday.

APEH said that the 1,655 businesses had total arrears of HUF 165.5bn, while the 2,955 private and privately employed individuals had total arrears HUF 29.5bn.

APEH noted that liquidation procedures had been initiated against 1,162 of the businesses, while a further 68 of the businesses were under winding-up procedures.

APEH President Janos Szikora announced on December 14 that the total amount of tax arrears in Hungary had risen by HUF 400bn since the end of 2008.
