Toyota recalls 22,000 cars in Hungary

A campaign by Toyota to recall its cars because of accelerator pedal problems could affect a total of 22,000 cars in Hungary, Toyota Motor Hungary communication director Ferenc Som told MTI on Monday.

They will start sending out letters informing the affected clients soon, and expect the necessary spare parts to arrive to Hungary by the end of this week, Mr Som said.

It is a precautionary measure, as there have been no accidents either in Hungary or in Europe because of the pedals, the director said.

Toyota announced in November 2009 it would recall 4.2m cars because of accelerator pedal related problems, and in January it extended the recall to Europe where it could affect around 1.8m cars.

The recall campaign affects eight models produced between 2007-2010.
