Hungarian men in the 35-44 age group earn over a third more than women of the same age, according to a survey by Workmania published on Wednesday.
Among the 35-44s, men earn an average gross monthly 250,400 forints (EUR 920) compared to 186,600 forints for women.
The smallest wage difference between the sexes is among first-time employees, with a gap of 8 percent (men earn 163,900 as against 150,600), the survey found.
In the country as a whole, the over 55s earn the most while employees aged between 25 and 34 are next in line. In Budapest, however, it is the younger generation which earn the most with 25-44 year-olds earning 282,000 forints before tax.
Among graduates aged between 35 and 44, the salary was an average 425,000 forints (EUR 1,560) before tax.
