City in SE Hungary to build power plant, greenhouse

Two Hungarian companies and the local council of Battonya (SE Hungary) will start building a HUF 2bn, 6MW power plant fueled with natural gas from a field at the site in March, mayor Jozsef Karsai told MTI on Thursday.

European Union funding of almost HUF 1bn will support the project.

Two companies based in Szeged own 76pc of the project company for the plant, Energiapark, and the local council owns the rest.

A company that operates 30 hectares of greenhouses will start building a HUF 2bn, 5.2-hectare greenhouse next to the power plant, Mr Karsai said. The company is expected to pay for HUF 600m of the cost of the project, with EU funding covering HUF 500m-600m and loans the rest, he added.
