Former Roma community house sold off for price of plot

A former Roma community house in Szeged has deteriorated to such an extent that it is being offered for sale as land for Ft 20 million (roughly €73,000), local daily Délmagyar reports.

The Amaro Kher (“Our House”) community center has not been used for five years. In 2004, Ft 8.5 million was spent on renovations.

The town had given the property to the community to use for free for five years. Its estimated market value was Ft 24.1 million.

The new owner will probably have to demolish the building, and they will not be required to use the property as a community house.
