Sales of men’s magazines suffer steep drop in Hungary

Revenues from sales of men’s magazines in Hungary have been falling continuously for one and a half years, kreativ.hu writes. As Hearst Sanoma Budapest stopped publishing FHM at the end of last year, Marquard Media, the publisher of CKM and Playboy, was left without competitor in the market of mothly men’s magazines.

Based on data collected by the portal, Playboy still sells considerably more than CKM. At mid-2008, revenues from all three magazines fel sharply, coinciding with the start of the economic crisis.

According to data provided by TNS Media Intelligence, Playboy was still doing better in 2009 than its competitors in 2006. Revenues of Playboy were Ft 527 million (roughly €2 million) in the first three quarters of 2009, while CKM had Ft 500 million and FHM Ft 432 million in the whole of 2006.
