State tourism agency plans joint campaign to promote conference tourism

State tourism agency Magyar Turizmus has said it plans a joint advertising campaign with conference hotels and event venues to raise the country’s profile as a destination for conference tourism.

The cooperation will involve the travel agents association and hotels association.

This year, Magyar Turizmus’s Hungarian Congress Office will start setting up a joint internet sales system that allows travellers arriving in Hungary for conferences to book rooms at local hotels at good prices.

Preliminary data show there were 357 international conferences organised in Hungary in 2009, down one-third from 2008.

Good ol’ Magyar Turizmus. Look what has happened to Lake Balaton. Customers are rare as a good steak.
FlyBalaton should be their top priority. No airport no tourists?
Ferihegy in Budapest is a reasonable airport.
Trouble is the connections to other parts of the country – especially Lake Balaton are very limited.
Tour operators are the key to boosting visitor numbers.
But, I can tell you, from personal experience they are 100% completely, and utterly, f—ing useless!
Training in sales and marketing might help the
clueless candidates that put themselves up (pun! aggh) as, so-called, tour operators?
