Philips offers jobs in Hungary to laid-off French workers

Philips offered jobs in Hungary to the 280 employees of its plasma TV set factory in Dreux, France, when it informed them by letter on Saturday that the plant is to be closed from Monday.

The union has gone to court to suspend the closure and objects that Philips offered €450 a month jobs in Székesfehérvár to employees if they can speak Hungarian.

Philips is obliged to offer jobs to workers before dismissing them, the union said.
