Budapest district evicts Roma Press Center

The Seventh District has decided not to renew a ten-year tenancy contract with the Roma Press Centre, forcing the organisation to move out of its office on Nefelejcs utca effective March 1. The office houses the Roma Holocaust archives.

Centre director Andrea Tóth said the organisation has no official document regarding its status as a tenant in the building. “Ten years ago this was a ruined barn; now it is equipped with all possible amenities, which is worth Ft 100 million, according to a property appraiser,” she said.

The Centre will temporarily move into a 25m2 flat offered by a friend.
