Subscriber numbers at biggest cable, satellite and IPTV companies climb 17,000

Hungary’s 14 biggest cable, satellite and internet television companies had 2,489,000 subscribers at the end of December, 17,000 more than a month earlier, the National Telecommunications Office (NHH) told MTI on Tuesday.

Magyar Telekom, Invitel, UPC, FiberNet, DIGI, PR TELEKOM, Zelka, TARR, TvNetWork, ViDaNet, PARISAT, RubiCom, Antenna Hungaria and HD Platform control 80-85pc of the pay television market in Hungary.

Digital television subscribers accounted for 45.8pc of the companies’ total number of subscribers, up from 45.2pc a month earlier. The number of digital cable TV subscribers rose 15,000 to 389,000, while the number of IPTV subscribers climbed 8,000 to 752,000.

UPC led the pay television market with 31.9pc of subscribers. The runner-up was DIGI with 23.4pc, followed by Magyar Telekom with 21.5pc.
