There were 2.783m internet subscriptions in Hungary at the end December 2008, up 7.3pc from the end of September and up 20.4pc in twelve months, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) reported on Tuesday.
The rise came after a 26.1pc increase in 2008.
Wireless internet subscriptions rose 19.0pc in three months and 52.5pc in twelve months to 1,033,977 at the end of December 2009 after a 56.1pc rise in 2008.
Within the broadband internet segment, the number of cable subscriptions rose 2.5pc in the fourth quarter and rose 8.9pc in twelve months to 782,287, while the number of xDSL subscriptions fell 0.2pc in the last quarter, and fell 0.8pc yr/yr to 800,013.
Internet service providers (ISP) had revenue of HUF 34.94bn in Q4 2008, down 1.6pc from the previous quarter. Revenue rose a slight 0.1pc to HUF 141.88bn last year in a sharp contrast with a 25.9pc increase in 2008.
There were 357 ISPs in Hungary at the end of 2009, down 46 in one year. The market remained highly concentrated, with 18 ISPs accounting for 90pc of all subscriptions.
