EC may deny Hungary €37.5 million in EU funds, daily reports

The European Commission may scrap 10 billion forints (37.5m euros) in cohesion funds for Hungary saying that the funds had been applied for on the basis of an illicit claim, the business daily Napi Gazdasag reported on Tuesday.

Hungary’s authorities have included VAT among refundable expenses of the construction of Motorway 43, which is against EU regulations, the paper said.

Though the EC has focused on a sole case, similar Hungarian projects are estimated to amount to several hundred billion forints, the paper said.
