Residential units edge up in size in Budapest; stall in countryside

The average size of residential units in Budapest remained unchanged from 2008 to 2009 - at 67 square meters - while over the same period the size of properties in surrounding Pest county grew by 3%, to 103 sqm, napi.hu reports, based on information from Hungary's official statistics office (KSH).

Over two-thirds of new units constructed in the city were in multi-storey buildings, while in the surrounding area roughly the same percentage (63%) of new residential units were single-floor houses.

Meanwhile, the utilization rate of new residential units dropped by 11% in central Hungary, but thanks to a 10% rise in Budapest the overall market remained on level. Overall, 55% of new units were built in the central Hungarian region.
