Budapest police seize 50 servers on copyright infringement charges

Police in Budapest have seized 50 computer servers with 500 terabytes of content in several locations in the capital after copyright foundations alerted the authorities to illegal file-sharing and distribution activities, police said on Thursday.

According to a statement on the Budapest police headquarters’ website, officers raided several server warehouses, internet service providers and the College of Engineering on Wednesday and took away servers containing a list of the biggest domestic and international file-sharing sites, data and file-sharing enablers.

Several tens of thousands of copyright-protected works had been illegally distributed and published, the statement said.
