Ministry stops Volánbusz tender

The National Development Ministry will cancel the bus purchase tender announced by state coach company Volánbusz, because the conditions exclude many potential bidders, the ministry announced yesterday.

The tender requires bidders to have average net annual revenue of Ft 1.5 billion from bus sales over the years 2007-09.

Volánbusz wants to purchase 20 two-axle and 40 three-axle buses. The deadline for bids was July 26.
After changing the conditions, Volánbusz might invite bids again, the ministry added.

Legally the tender can be stopped by the state asset manager MNV, Napi Gazdaság adds.

The tender has also been criticised because many manufacturers do not make three-axle buses, which limits the scope of potential bidders, the newspaper points out.
