PPP investment projects to be scrapped

The cabinet will no longer employ public-private partnership (PPP) investment projects as they act as a cover for injurious contracts, National Development Ministry state secretary Sára Nemes-Hegmann told Inforádió on Wednesday.

It has been proven in several cases that off-shore companies were at the end of the line, which is unacceptable when public funds are being utilised, Nemes-Hegmann said.

The overhaul of the Erkel Theatre and the National Museum underground garage construction project will be halted, but work on the Technical University, a University of Medicine dormitory and Gödöllő Agricultural University will go on “because it would not make sense to halt those projects,” Nemes-Hegmann added.

Lawyers and experts are presently investigating all of Hungary’s PPP projects.
