Deutsche Telekom investigated on suspicion of bribery at Hungarian unit

German prosecutors are investigating Deutsche Telekom on suspicion of bribery at its Hungarian unit Magyar Telekom, German daily Suddeutsche Zeitung reported on Friday.

A spokesman for Deutsche Telekom confirmed the report.

The investigation of eight Deutsche Telekom managers concerns questionable contracts at Magyar Telekom’s units in Macedonia and Montenegro uncovered in 2005.

In a final report on an internal investigation of the contracts published in December 2009 Magyar Telekom’s audit committee said contracts worth a combined EUR 31m that “served improper purposes” had been signed at the units.
