Bootlegged items becoming less desirable to Hungarian consumers

Demand for counterfeit products has dropped in Hungary, inforadio.hu reports. According to a fresh survey by the National Body Against Counterfeiting (HENT), the majority of shoppers consciously avoid products of uncertain origin and bad quality.

The HENT told the portal that the majority of respondents had said counterfeiting was not only a crime but also dangerous. Consumers are most lenient in cases of counterfeit clothing and perfumes, but compared to last year’s 30%, this year 60% said they would not purchase counterfeit clothing, and 75% would not buy counterfeit perfumes, either. Mainly young people are open to buying counterfeit products, 38% saying they would purchase them.

Buyers of counterfeit products are not punished in Hungary, but the survey showed one third of respondents would change this rule and punish not only the sellers but the buyers as well.
