Deputy PM appeals for strategic alliance between state and business

Deputy Prime Minister Tibor Navracsics on Saturday called for a strategic alliance to be formed between the state and businesses.

Addressing a scientific conference, Navracsics, who is also the minister of justice and public administration, said government policies should always serve the public good rather than private interests. In his speech, Navracsics said this created the conditions for economic stability and growth.

He said the two basic pillars of the public good were competition and solidarity. Without the latter, “society falls apart,” he added.

The minister said the government was striving to make sure citizens should see as quickly as possible the government’s efforts to serve the public good of the whole of the nation. This includes pursuing debates between the government and the opposition in order to find “the best solution,” he said.

The civic government’s further goal is stability, and for this the creation of a strong state is needed in order to maintain legal and social norms, he said. The transformation of the legal system over the past 18 months has served, among other things, the creation of the conditions for economic competitiveness, he said.

“The state seen from the outside should be as simple as possible while from the inside it should be as efficient as possible …” he said, noting that the government had reduced the number of public administration institutions to 318 from 649.

Tibor, please name a single change which your government which has served to create “conditions for economic competitiveness”. He can bang on about competition and solidarity but there will be no alliances before they address fairness, transparency and consistency. And even then one wonders why there should be an alliance. We are risking capital. Is he suggesting that the state will start to invest in business? If they do, like Raba and the new mobile phone frequency they will fast find out that private business does not want to jump into bed with the government…one wonders why!!

  2. Abácsi says:

Surely some mistake in the article? “…government policies should always serve the public good rather than private interests”

I think he meant …..serve the Party good!

As FIDESZ firmly believe in the “trickle-down” effect of wealth (if not why would they state that a flat income tax is not for renegotiation) there is no difference between serving the interests of some rich citizens, who just happen to be FIDESZ supporters, in the short term and the public interest in the long term, when we can all afford to ride around in new Audis and live in gated mansions. And if “competition” is achieved through rigged public tenders, it hardly encourages solidarity, except between those who can be classed as “thick as thieves” already.
