Quotable: György Matolcsy on his approach to central banking

“I am a great supporter of conservative and responsible central banking and monetary policy.”

Economy Minister György Matolcsy, speaking after his nomination Friday to be the new head of the Hungarian National Bank. During his remarks Matolcsy stressed that he was an "enemy" of inflation, and reiterated that the National Bank is subject to the European Union's central bank laws.
